Frozen Semen
Frozen Semen Laboratory Chilled Semen production was shifted over to Frozen Semen production at SLBTC in the year 1985 to produce frozen semen from highly pedigreed dairy animals required for artificial breeding in the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services. This unit is ISO 9001:2008 Certified for carrying out industry standard practices in maintaining high pedigreed bulls, processing semen, production & handling of quality frozen semen.

Frozen semen is produced from four different (2 cattle and 2 buffalo) breeds viz Jersey, HF, Murrah and Surti. Present bull strength at the Centre is shown below:

The annual target of frozen semen production is 10 lakh doses. Frozen semen produced at the Centre will be sent to Sire Evaluation Cell in the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services for further distribution to various Government Institutions across the State to be used for artificial insemination.

Undergraduate students from various Veterinary Colleges are trained in bull management, collection, quality check, processing of semen and freezing, storage & handling of frozen semen as a part of their academic Internship Training programme.
